Tehseen Poonawalla Shares Video of AG Calling E20 Petrol Policy โ€˜Experimentโ€™ in Supreme Court After Govtโ€™s Denial

Tehseen Poonawalla has shared a video claiming it shows Attorney General R. Venkataramani describing the E20 petrol policy as an 'experiment' during Supreme Court proceedings, a day after the Centre officially denied such reports. The government has maintained that the E20 programme was never described as an experiment and said media reports suggesting otherwise were incorrect.

Political commentator Tehseen Poonawalla on Wednesday, July 1, shared a video on social media claiming it shows Attorney General R. Venkataramani referring to the government's E20 (20% Ethanol Blended Petrol) policy as an "experiment" during proceedings before the Supreme Court. The post comes a day after the Centre issued an official clarification denying reports that the Attorney General had described the E20 programme as an "experiment" before the court.

Sharing the video on X, Poonawalla wrote: "Dear SM Fam & media, Hon'ble Attorney General R Venkataramani ji did say the 'Ethanol 20 policy is an experiment!' A journalist covering the Hon'ble Supreme Court sent the video. Our govt lied!" Poonawalla's post has renewed the debate over what was said during the Supreme Court hearing. The video shared by him is being circulated on social media with the claim that it captures the Attorney General referring to the E20 policy as an "experiment."ย Does E20 Petrol Void Car Insurance? Government Rejects 'Experiment' Claim

In a press release issued on June 30, the Office of the Attorney General said certain media reports had incorrectly reported the submissions made before the Supreme Court in proceedings arising from BPCL's Special Leave Petition related to ethanol allocation.

According to the clarification, reports claiming that the government described the E20 programme as an "ongoing experiment" and suggested its impact would become clearer next year were "completely false" and did not reflect the Attorney General's actual submissions.ย Does E20 Petrol Attract Ants? The government further stated: "At no stage was any submission made that the Government's Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme or the E20 blending programme is an 'experiment'." It added that any suggestion that the Union government had described the programme as an experiment before the Supreme Court was incorrect and urged media organisations to report judicial proceedings accurately.

The controversy stems from Supreme Court proceedings in a case involving Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and ethanol allocation. The Centre has maintained that its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme is a national initiative aimed at ensuring 20% ethanol blending in petrol and has rejected suggestions that the programme is still in an experimental phase.

The issue has since sparked a wider discussion on social media, with competing claims over the Attorney General's courtroom remarks and the government's subsequent clarification.
