A Tesla vehicle operating on the company’s latest "Full Self-Driving" (FSD) software nearly collided with an oncoming train after failing to yield at an active railroad crossing. Dashcam footage released by automotive journalist Lei Xing shows the electric vehicle approaching the tracks while warning lights flashed and train horns sounded, forcing the driver to manually step on the brakes to avoid an impact.

Dashcam Captures Near-Miss

The incident occurred while the Tesla was traveling at approximately 9 mph in self-driving mode. Xing immediately intervened by slamming on the brakes, stopping the vehicle just short of the right-of-way. In a public post sharing the dashcam footage, Xing noted that the vehicle would have been struck by the passing train had he not taken immediate manual control.

Software Versioning and Safety Claims

According to Xing, the Tesla was running software version FSD v14.3.7—the newest software iteration deployed by the automaker. Pattern of Railroad Crossing Failures

This latest event adds to a growing list of documented railroad crossing incidents involving Tesla's autonomous driver-assist technology. Earlier this year, separate incidents were reported in California and Texas where Teslas engaged in FSD drove directly through lowered railroad crossing barriers, resulting in property damage.

Regulatory bodies, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), have faced increasing pressure from federal lawmakers to scrutinize Tesla's driver-assistance systems.
