Mumbai, November 1: Mumbai and Hyderabad received the prestigious tag of UNESCO Creative Cities on the occasion of World Cities Day on Thursday. According to a Times of India report, Mumbai entered under the film category and Hyderabad under the gastronomy.

Haleem and Biriyani have once again earned the global recognition for the Nizam's city. These two cities will be part of the 246-member-strong network of ‘creative’ urban settlements, out of which 66 have been added this year.  Till now, Varanasi, Chennai and Jaipur were in the network. in 2010, Haleem was awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) status, thus making it the first meat-based product from India to win the tag. his means that a dish cannot be sold as Hyderabadi haleem unless it meets the necessary standards laid down for it.

On Thursday, World Cities Day was celebrated, a day marked by the United Nations every year to address the challenges of urbanisation with the broad theme of Better City, Better Life. This year’s theme was innovations and a better life for future generations.
