The deceased has been identified as Girish Bhatt, 38, a resident of Banbasa and a serving member of the Champawat SOG unit. According to initial reports, Bhatt was exercising at a local gym on Friday when he suddenly felt unwell and collapsed.
People present at the gym immediately rushed him to a private hospital in nearby Khatima. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. While local reports suggest a suspected heart attack, authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the cause of death. Officer Known for Dedicated Service
Bhatt is survived by his wife and two sons. Originally from Pithoragarh district, he later settled in Banbasa. His sudden death has left family members, colleagues and residents in shock.
Police officials described him as a dedicated and efficient officer who was associated with several important operations in the district. He was known for his commitment to duty and his contributions to maintaining law and order. Funeral Held With Full Honours
Bhatt's last rites were performed with full honours at Sharda Ghat cremation ground in Banbasa. Senior police officials, local residents, traders and public representatives attended the funeral and paid their final respects.
The incident comes days after national-level bodybuilder Sushil Kumar reportedly died following a workout session in Karnataka. While there is no connection between the two cases, the incidents have once again drawn attention to sudden medical emergencies occurring during or after intense physical exercise.
