According to ACP Bhelupur Gaurav Kumar, the two men had been in a relationship for a long time and had been living together for nearly a year.

During interrogation, Pandey allegedly confessed to the crime and told investigators that he and Rai had even married at a temple and were living together "like husband and wife." Police said the claim is part of the accused's statement and forms part of the ongoing investigation.

Police are examining whether alcohol consumption played a role in the fatal altercation and are continuing to investigate the exact sequence of events and motive behind the killing.
