Kandi, May 2: The Indian National Congress Party on Thursday announced two candidates for the ensuing bye-elections to the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal. The grand old party has announced Safiul Alam Khan as its candidate from Kandi constituency and Sunil Kumar Mondal is fielded from Naoda assembly constituency. By-polls to Nowda and Kandi were necessitated as the seat fell vacant following the resignation of Congress' Abu Taher Khan and Apurba Sarkar. Both the leaders, later joined Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress. The Election Commission of India (ECI), earlier, said that voting on two assembly seats would take place on May 19 but later scheduled it to May 20. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal are taking place in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The major contesting is between Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress party.
