The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust member Krishna Mohan following recommendations made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Police said all eight accused are currently being questioned while legal formalities, including arrest memos, are being completed. Who Are the Eight Accused?
The FIR names the following eight individuals:
- Avinash Shukla
- Anukalp Mishra
- Lavkush Mishra
- Manish Kumar Yadav
- Karunesh Pandey
- Ramashankar Mishra
- Subhash Srivastava
- Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu
The case also names several unidentified persons.
What Are the Charges?
The accused have been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including offences related to theft, criminal breach of trust, receiving or concealing stolen property, criminal conspiracy and acts committed in furtherance of a common intention. They also face charges under Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
How Did the Case Begin?
The FIR follows the findings of the Special Investigation Team, which was constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government on June 13 after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust sought an investigation into alleged irregularities in the handling of donations made by devotees at the Ram Temple.
The controversy gained political attention after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav cited reports alleging that crores of rupees in temple donations were missing and urged the courts to take cognisance of the matter.
Who Filed the Complaint?
The complaint was filed by Krishna Mohan, a trustee of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. He joined the trust on September 16, 2025, after the death of trustee Kameshwar Chaupal.
A retired Indian Forest Service officer from Uttar Pradesh, Krishna Mohan previously worked in the atomic energy sector before joining the civil services. He retired in 2012 and later became involved in social work before being inducted into the temple trust.
The investigation into the alleged embezzlement is ongoing, and authorities have indicated that further action may follow based on the findings of the probe.
