Jaipur, December 24: Cold waves continued to grip Rajasthan with Churu emerging as the coldest place recording 3.5 degree Celsius on Monday night. In its weather forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that cold waves will intensify from December 24 and the state will witness severe winter chills till December 27. "Dense to very dense fog in the morning hours very likely during next 5 days and cold wave conditions during 24th to 27th over north Rajasthan", the IMD said in its release.

The weather agency also added saying that dense to very dense fog during the morning hours is very likely over Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next 48 hours.  Majority of the places also witnessed a dip in mercury which triggered severe cold conditions at many places across the state. Cold Waves Grip North India as Mercury Dips Following Snowfall in The Hill States, See Pics.

On Monday, several areas including Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaipur and Jaisalmer recorded minimum temperatures of 4.9, 6, 7 and 7.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Meanwhile, the maximum temperatures in Dabok, Ajmer and Jodhpur were 9.8, 10.1 and 10.3 degrees respectively. The night temperatures are expected to further dip in the state in the next 24 hours.

On December 22, the minimum temperature in Sikar, Pilani, Bikaner and Ganganagar was 5, 6.1, 7.5 and 7.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Reports inform that Jaisalmer, Jaipur and Barmer recorded a low of 7.7, 9 and 10.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
