Assam, April 18: Polling has end for the five constituencies of the north-eastern state of Assam in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2019. As per reports, the total voter turnout for the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections is 73.32%. A Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine malfunctioned at a polling station in Silchar during the first hour of voting. The security was tightened in all the five constituencies namely Karimganj, Silchar, Autonomous District, Mangaldoi and Nowgong undergoing their General Elections 2019 polls today. For the Phase II Lok Sabha Elections 2019, held on April 18, the number of polling centres is approximately 8,992, in which more than 68 lakh voters are expected to cast their vote from the five Lok Sabha seats to elect their representative. The major political parties in this year’s Lok Sabha Elections are the Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIDUF) and others. Voting for the 2019 General Elections will be conducted through the Electronic Voting Machines and VVPAT machines which reportedly have been placed at all the polling booth.

In Nowgong, the key candidates are Pradyut Bordoloi (INC), Sri Rupak Sharma (BJP) and Sahadeb Das (AITC). In Mangaldoi, the key candidates are Dilip Saikia (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (INC) and Sudhendu Mohan Talukdar (AITC). The key candidates in Silchar are Rajdeep Roy (BJP), Sushmita Dev (INC) and Hitabrata Roy (AITC). In Karimganj, the key candidates are Krpianath Mallah (BJP), Chandan Das (AITC) and Radheshyam Biswas (AIUDF). In the Autonomous District, the key candidates are Biren Sing Engti (INC), Horen Sing Bey (BJP) and Leinkhochon (National People’s Party).

Polling for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will take place in seven phases. While the first phase was held on April 11, the second phase elections were conducted today, and the final stage of polls is scheduled to be held on May 19, 2019. Assam will undergo to the polls in three phases for its 14 Lok Sabha seats. The final counting of votes is scheduled to be held on May 23, 2019.
