Chandigarh, April 20: Punjab Chief Minister on Friday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur over her controversial remarks on former Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) chief late Hemant Karkare. Captain Singh tweeted, “Is she sane? Sadhvi Pragya has dragged patriotism to a new low by attacking decorated dead IPS officer #HemantKarkare who sacrificed himself to fight terrorism & here's an official @BJP4India candidate insulting his memory! It's an insult to our men in uniform & to every Indian.” Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Malegaon Blast Accused, Served Notice by EC.

Sadhvi on Friday sparked a controversy by insulting 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare saying 'he died because he was cursed'. The BJP leader went on to further say that Karkare, who was the former Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief in the deadly 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was a traitor. Sadhvi Pragya has always remained in the news for making controversial remarks.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Election Commission issued a notice to the BJP Lok Sabha candidate. Sadhvi joined the saffron party on April 17 and on the same day she was nominated as the party candidate from Bhopal against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. Sadhvi is accused in 2008 Malegaon blast. She is currently out on bail on health. The polling in Bhopal will take place in the sixth phase on May 12. The results will be declared on May 23.
