New Delhi, August 27: After meeting leaders of all political parties at the all-party meeting on Monday, Chief Election Commission (CEC) OP Rawat said that the meeting was fruitful and all political parties were very positive and constructive in giving suggestions to improve the election process. Rawat said that the parties suggested ways and means to further improve the integrity of elections. "Some political parties have said that there are problems with EVMs and VVPATs. Rawat assured that these things have been noted by the Commission", the CEC said.

Rawat said that some of the parties said going back to the ballot is a bad idea  as it would bring back booth capturing. He further added saying that the Election Commission will take all the suggestions, examine and whatever needs to be done to improve the delivery of elections will be done. Ahead of the meeting today, the Congress once again appealed to EC that the next Lok Sabha polls be held on the ballot paper, ANI reported. The party had moved a resolution in this regard in its 84th plenary session in March.

The meeting on Monday was called by the Election Commission to find political consensus on electoral reforms. Apart from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, CPI, CPM and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party and 51 state parties attended the meeting.
