New Delhi, May 25: Two Days after losing the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 to Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance, Congress leaders came in support of their party president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday. This comes after Gandhi offered his resignation at the Congress Working Committee meeting in the national capital, but it was unanimously rejected.

Showering his support for Rahul, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, while briefing a press conference, "Congress Working Committee unanimously agreed that Rahul Gandhi did great work, there’s no doubt about his leadership." Adding more, he said, "If anyone can lead the opposition, it is Rahul Gandhi; he has demonstrated this in the past few years." Azad, while commenting on the elections debacle, said, "A loss is never dissected in detail at the first Working Committee meeting, it will happen in the coming days, there will be introspection." Expressing more, the senior Congress leader said, "At the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said I am party president, I have accountability for the loss and insisted that he step down." But added that the decision was unanimously rejected.

There were other leaders like Randeep Singh Surjewala, RPN Singh and AK Antony too briefed the press conference. They too expressed their support for Rahul Gandhi as party president. It is to be known that Congress had called for CWC meeting, days after conceding a defeat in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
