Raipur, December 11: Congress candidates on Tuesday took significant lead in BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh as the Congress gained absolute majority in the state, winning 68 seats in the state. The BJP has been in power in Chhattisgarh since 2003 and Raman Singh has been the chief minister of  Chhattisgarh  for three terms but the BJP could win only 15 seats.

The loss for the BJP will be hard hitting even despite anti-incumbency present in the masses with 15 years of rule.

The BJP had won 49 seats in the 2013 assembly elections in Chhattisgarh and formed the government for the third time. However, things have gone downhill for the party as this election result trends indicate.

The results give Congress a massive mandate, and predict more than 60 seats for the party in the 90 seat assembly. The Congress had won 39 seats in the last state elections in Chhattisgarh and has improved massively, as the assembly polls results trends show.

The three leading faces for the post of Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh are Bhupesh Baghel, Tamradhwaj Sahu and Tribhuvaneshwar Saran Singh Deo or T.S. Singh Deo. The three faces were actively involved in the campaigning and the Congress High Commission may go with any of the names considering their popularity.
