Counting of votes was scheduled to begin across all constituencies of the state at 8am. Stay tuned above for the live result updates and trends emerging from all designated counting centres. The battle, as per the post-election surveys, is starkly divided between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with the JCC-BSP-CPI alliance predicted to play the role of kingmaker.

The exit polls, released on Friday, predicted a photo-finish in the state. An aggregate of nine post-poll surveys gave BJP a single seat advantage. The party was predicted to bag 42 seats, whereas, the Congress was expected to win 41. The alliance of Ajit Jogi-Mayawati, along with other independents, were expected to bag the remaining 8 seats -- thus predicted to play a critical role in the next government's formation.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had conducted polling in the state of Chhattisgarh in two phases. The first phase of voting took place for the 18 Maoist violence hit seats on November 12 and the remaining 72 seats went to polls on November 20, 2018 for the 90 seat assembly of Chhattisgarh.
