HD Kumaraswamy Hits Out at BJP After Karnataka Police Detain Roshan Baig in IMA Ponzi Scheme Scam

Bengaluru, July 16: Hours after suspended Congress MLA and former minister Roshan Baig was detained by Karnataka police in the IMA Ponzi case, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and questioned BJP's intentions. Kumaraswamy alleged that the saffron party helped the former minister to escape. Kumaraswamy tweeted, “Today SIT probing the #IMA case detained @rroshanbaig for questioning at the BIAL airport while he was trying leave along with @BSYBJP's PA Santosh on a chartered flight to Mumbai. In another tweet, he wrote, “BJP MLA Yogeshwar was present at the time there. Its a shame that @BJP4Karnataka is helping a former minister escape, who is facing a probe in the #IMA case. This clearly shows #BJP's direct involvement in destabilizing the govt through horse trading.”

Earlier, Baig was detained for questioning in the IMA Ponzi scheme case. He was apprehended when he was flying out of Bangalore in a chartered flight from Bangalore International Airport. According to reports, he was flying to Pune. Baig was already given a notice to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on July 19. Earlier, Baig was to appear before the SIT on Monday, but he did not turn up. He wanted to appear on July 25, but the SIT summoned him on July 19.

Baig tendered his resignation from the Congress on July 9. The expelled Congress MLA had blamed state unit of the Congress party for his decision to quit. He was suspended by the grand old party for his controversial remarks after the Lok Sabha Elections debacle.
