Kolkata, September 23: Debanjan Ballav, a student of Jadavpur University who pulled Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babul Supriyo by the hair, said that he didn't regret his actions. Describing his actions as "act of resistance against fascism", Debanjan Ballav added that he would repeat his actions in future if he gets a chance. Ballav's photo pulling Babul Supriyo's hair during the Jadavpur University disturbances went viral on social media. Agnimitra Paul, BJP Leader from West Bengal, Complains of Physical Abuse, Molestation by Unruly Crowd at Jadavpur University.

Speaking to India Today, Ballav, who is a United Student Democratic Front (USDF) activist, said that he did not repent pulling Supriyo by his hair and beating him. The Jadavpur University student also said that he was not scared of a crackdown but is apprehensive that he may be targeted. Last week, Supriyo was allegedly heckled, slapped and detained for hours by pro-Left students when he arrived at Jadavpur University to attend an ABVP event.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had then reached the campus with a large police force and rescued Supriyo in his car. Last Friday, Supriyo had tweeted Ballav's photograph and posted: "This is the guy who led the assault in #JadavpurUniversity. we will find him out and then see what @MamataOfficial does to him in terms of charging him for assault without ANY PROVOCATION whatsoever from our/my side".

Following the tweet, Ballav's mother Rupali Ballav apologised to Supriyo and urged the minister not to "harm him". "I want to tell Babulda that I have brought him up after much hardship. Please don't harm him," she was seen pleading with folded hands in the video. In reply, Supriyo addressed her as aunty, and told her not to worry. "Aunty, don't worry. I won't harm your son. I want him to learn from his mistake."

Supriyo said he had not filed any FIR against anybody after the Jadavpur University happenings. "I haven't filed any FIR against anybody, nor have I allowed others to do so. Please don't be worried. Get well soon. Please accept my regards," said Supriyo.
