Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati issued a sharp appeal to students and Gen Z youth, urging them to distance themselves from the political maneuvers of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Congress. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister accused both political camps of deliberately hijacking genuine youth-led demonstrations to serve their own electoral interests.
The BSP chief highlighted two major recent agitations—the student demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over exam paper leaks and the widespread job recruitment protests in Ranchi—as prime examples of student movements being co-opted. Mayawati noted that while these protests originated from genuine frustration over systemic issues like unemployment and exam irregularities, rival political parties quickly intervened to convert them into partisan battlegrounds. Linking the ongoing disruptions in Parliament to these street demonstrations, Mayawati alleged an "internal collusion" between the BJP and the Congress. She stated that the continuous parliamentary deadlocks were a calculated strategy designed by both parties to distract the public from governance failures, rising unemployment, and the weakening of public-sector job opportunities.
The warning comes as the BSP steps up its direct outreach to young voters ahead of upcoming state assembly elections. Just a day prior to Mayawati’s address, BSP National Coordinator Akash Anand led a party rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, making a targeted push to engage Gen Z electors on employment and education policy. Urging young people to guard their platforms, Mayawati advised Gen Z to maintain complete independence from political agendas and push for structural solutions—including mandatory affirmative action in the private sector—rather than letting mainstream political parties turn their grievances into electoral stepping stones.
