New Delhi, August 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled address to the nation will be broadcast live from 8pm onwards. State broadcaster DD News, along with private TV news channels, will be streaming the speech live. The address comes in the aftermath of Jammu & Kashmir's special status revocation through abrogation of Article 370.

Modi's address was earlier scheduled on August 7, but was postponed due to the shock demise of former external affairs minister and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj. The Prime Minister was expected to apprise the nation on his step to dilute Article 370 and how it would lead to a "new dawn" for Jammu & Kashmir. Live Updates of PM Modi's Address to The Nation.

Notably, Article 370 in J&K was abrogated on Monday through an executive order issued by the Centre. Home Minister Amit Shah, while apprising both Houses of the Parliament of the measure, called it essential to "eliminate terrorism" and expedite development in the frontier state.

Modi, who was seated in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha when the Parliament debated the government's measure on Kashmir, did not spoke on the issue in either of the Houses.

While the Prime Minister is expected to further dwell on the reasons listed by Shah for abrogating Article 370, netizens also recalled how Modi had similarly announced a special address to the nation at 8pm on November 8, 2016, when he announced the demonetisation drive.
