Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Eid in his speech. Wished people in advance and said that the government will ensure that the people in Jammu and Kashmir get to celebrate Eid to their heart's content. "The government is taking care that people should not have any problem in celebrating Eid in Jammu and Kashmir. Our companions who live outside Jammu and Kashmir and want to return to their homes on Eid, the government is helping them in all possible ways", said PM Modi.

New Delhi, August 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Thursday, days after Article 370 was abrogated cancelling the special status and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. PM Modi was present both in the Rajya Sabha and  the Lok Sabha while the Bill was presented in the upper house and lower house of the Parliament. PM Narendra Modi to Address Nation Today on Jammu and Kashmir Situation, Article 370 Abrogation.

The last time PM Modi addressed the nation was during the general elections on March 27, 2019. The occasion was India demonstrating anti-satellite missile (A-Sat) capability when it shot down a live satellite.

Reports have said that the Prime Minister would address the nation today, on Thursday. Earlier, state broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) had earlier announced that Modi's address would begin at 4 PM. But it later deleted the tweet. And then the update said that PM's address would begin at 8 PM tonight.

PM Modi, in a series of tweet, hailed the Parliament for passing the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 and the abrogation of Article 370. "Together we are, together we shall rise and together we will fulfil the dreams of 130 crore Indians! A momentous occasion in our Parliamentary democracy, where landmark bills pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir have been passed with overwhelming support!" tweeted PM Modi.
