Chandigarh, June 14: A shocking case of violence against woman has emerged from Muktsar in Punjab, where the brother of a Congress councillor was seen thrashing a woman along with his aides. The local police swung into action after images of the physical assault went viral. At least six accused have been arrested.
The incident was reported on Friday, with scribes attributing a "money lending issue" behind the vicious attack on the woman. The key accused has been identified as brother of Rakesh Chaudhary, the Congress councillor. His aides have also been identified by the probing officials. Assuring justice to the victim, top officials of the Muktsar police said they would be taking stringent action against the accused.

The victim is currently being treated at the government hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.
