A 31-year-old IIT Delhi MSc Physics student died after jumping from the sixth floor of a campus building, with police and institute authorities investigating the incident. A 31-year-old student pursuing an MSc in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi died on Saturday morning, August 22, after allegedly jumping from a building on the institute's campus. According to investigators, the student entered the campus through the main gate at approximately 8:00 AM. He proceeded to the Lecture Hall Complex, took the elevator to the sixth floor, and jumped from the front side of the building.

The Kishangarh police station received a call regarding the incident at around 8:33 AM, reports PTI. Investigation and Findings

A crime scene investigation team and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit were deployed to inspect the site and gather evidence. Preliminary inquiries indicated no apparent injury marks on the body other than those caused by the fall. An officer said no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Authorities recovered a mobile phone from the deceased student's pocket, which is set to be examined as part of the ongoing probe. Investigators are also collecting counselling records and looking into treatment history from the institute.

Institute Statement and Alumni Reaction

In an official statement, IIT Delhi expressed profound grief over the tragedy. "The institute deeply mourns the tragic and untimely demise of an MSc student on August 22. The Delhi Police are investigating the sad incident. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. The institute is providing them with all support," IIT Delhi said.

PanIIT Alumni India Chairman Prabhat Kumar also extended condolences, emphasising the importance of seeking support during academic or personal difficulties, reports ANI. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a young student at IIT Delhi. Our heartfelt condolences are with the student's family, friends, classmates, teachers, and the entire IIT Delhi community during this difficult time," Kumar said.
