Results of Gram Panchayat By-Elections in Maharashtra's Palghar, Bhandara and Gondia to be Declared Tomorrow

The contest in gram panchayat bypolls is unlikely to reflect the standing of the political parties as most candidates are backed by some of the parties, rather than being allotted the electoral ticket.

Mumbai, June 3: Results of gram panchayat by-elections in Maharashtra's Palghar, Bhandara and Gondia will be declared tomorrow. The voting was held in May 27 for 9 seats in Palghar, 1 in Bhandara and 5 in Gondia. The State Election Commission will begin the counting of votes at 7:30 am.

Apart from Palghar, Bhandara and Gondia, bypolls were held in all 31 districts of Maharashtra on May 27. The results, except for these three districts, were declared on May 28. The counting of votes was deferred in Palghar, Bhandara and Gondia due to the Lok Sabha by-elections held last week.

Notably, the BJP won the Palghar Lok Sabha seat, with its candidate Rajendra Gavit ousting the Shiv Sena rival Srinivas Wanga by a margin of 29,572 votes. In Bhandara-Gondia, NCP candidate Madhukar Kukde defeated BJP's Hemant Patle with a lead of 48,097 votes.

The contest in gram panchayat bypolls is unlikely to reflect the standing of the political parties as most candidates are backed by some of the parties, rather than being allotted the electoral ticket.

Meanwhile, the election mode in Maharashtra is likely to begin in the next few months as the state will witness Lok Sabha as well as the assembly elections next year.
