Following Mumbai, the administrations in Panvel and Thane have also announced a holiday for all government and private schools and colleges on Monday, July 6, 2026, after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange alert for heavy rainfall. The precautionary move aims to ensure the safety of students as heavy showers are expected across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The order was issued by Thane District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Krishna Panchal, citing an Orange Alert issued by the IMD for July 6 and the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. The administration said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students as heavy rain could lead to waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas and other rain-related risks across the district. Mumbai School Holiday: BMC Declares July 6 Holiday for Schools, Colleges After IMD Orange Alert.

However, government and private offices in Mumbai will continue to function as usual.

The IMD has advised residents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Thane and Panvel, to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel through waterlogged areas and follow official weather advisories as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
