Sambit Patra's WhatsApp Account Hacked; BJP MP Warns Public Against Fraudulent Money Requests
Puri Member of Parliament and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Sambit Patra announced on Sunday that his WhatsApp account had been compromised. The senior leader issued a public warning advising people to disregard any suspicious communications or financial requests originating from his mobile number.

He said fraudsters were using the compromised account to circulate fake messages and attempt financial fraud. In a post on X, Patra informed the public that his WhatsApp account had been hacked and clarified that any messages being sent from the account were not authorised by him. He cautioned people against responding to messages, calls or financial requests originating from his WhatsApp number until the account is restored.

He stressed that the messages were fake and had no connection to him, urging people not to transfer money or engage with any suspicious communication received from his account.
Patra said he immediately informed senior officials of the Odisha Police after discovering the breach. He added that legal and technical steps were being taken to recover the compromised account and investigate the incident. The incident comes amid a rise in cyber fraud involving hacked messaging accounts and impersonation scams. Authorities continue to urge users not to share one-time passwords (OTPs), verification codes or other sensitive information with anyone claiming to offer technical assistance.
