Varanasi, January 9: Congress' general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, lauded the party's students' wing - the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) - for scripting a landslide win in the Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya students' union elections. As per the results declared, the NSUI has won all the four posts which were contested in the keenly fought polls.

The poll battle in the Varanasi-based University was primarily stacked up between the NSUI and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is the students' wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In the battle for President's post, NSUI's Shivam Shukla defeated the ABVP candidate by bagging 485 out of the total 988 votes polled.

For the Vice President's post, NSUI candidate Chandan Kumar Mishra defeated his ABVP counterpart by winning 553 votes. The Congress' student wing also ended up wresting the general secretary and secretary posts.

Here's How Priyanka Gandhi Reacted on Twitter

"So proud of @nsui for the fantastic results at Sampoornanad Sanskrit University: 4 out of 4!! Well done!! (sic)," the Gandhi scion posted on social media.

The NSUI victory over ABVP assumes significance as it comes amid the ongoing protests in several Universities across the nation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The agitation has led to an ideological battle, pitting the ABVP against the NSUI and the Left-affiliated student bodies.
