Mansing Fattesingrao Naik of NCP has won the Shirala Assembly constituency in Maharashtra by defeating the BJP candidate Naik Shivajirao Yashwantrao. The constituency of Shirala is one of the 288 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly constituencies of Maharashtra. Geographically, Shirala is situated in Sangli district, and is one of the 8 Vidhan Sabha seats that come in this district. The Election Commission of India had announced that the voting in Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019 will be done in a single phase manner on October 21, and hence the populace in Shirala will be voting on the same day.

Shivajirao Naik, who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is the current MLA from the Shirala constituency. In Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2014, he defeated NCP’s candidate and secured a narrow win by securing 85,363 votes in his favour. In 2009 Maharashtra Assembly Polls, it was NCP who had won from the Shirala constituency, defeating BJP’s Shivajirao Naik. On September 21, the Election Commission had announced the dates for both Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019. It was mentioned that voting in both states will take place in a single-phase manner on October 21. The results for which will be announced on October 24. The EC had also said that all the election-related procedures will be completed by October 28, i.e. Diwali.

In its guidelines, the EC had directed the poll officials that all services should be made available to the specially-abled people and senior citizens for smooth conduct of polls. The EC had also mentioned that at least one booth in every assembly constituency should be women-exclusive only, where the election staff and security personnel will be women members only.

The term of the current government in Maharashtra is slated to end on November 9. The campaigning from both the camps, i.e. BJP, Shiv Sena, and other parties of NDA vs Congress, NCP and other parties of UPA, has been quite interesting, heading into the polls.
