The 8th Pay Commission is progressing through its mandated timeline, approaching its final submission window while central government employees anticipate the upcoming revision to their Dearness Allowance (DA). Formally constituted on November 3, 2025, following the Union Cabinet's approval of its Terms of Reference (ToR) on October 28, 2025, the Commission has an 18-month window to finalize its recommendations.
With the deadline slated for around May 2027, the panel is expected to propose updated salaries, pensions, and allowances for roughly 55 lakh central government employees and an estimated 69 lakh pensioners, reports Money Control. Expected Dearness Allowance Hike
Central government employees and pensioners are likely to receive the latest biannual Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief installment in September 2026. Based on standard calculation models utilising the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) data from the Labour Bureau, the DA is projected to increase by 3 percentage points, moving from the current 60 percent to 63 percent. "Dearness allowance is typically announced in September, although in some years the announcement may be delayed until October," said Manjeet Singh Patel, President of the All India NPS Employees Federation.
Commission Consultations and State Visits
Alongside routine allowance computations, the 8th Pay Commission continues its countrywide stakeholder consultations with employee associations and service bodies.
