Bhopal, March 24: After the Indian National Congress on Saturday fielded Digvijaya Singh from Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal, there are reports that Bharatiya Janata Party is thinking of placing a strong candidate against the Congress biggie. The Bhopal constituency has been a stronghold of BJP for nearly 30 years. The last INC leader to elect from there was former President Shankar Dayal Sharma, who was in 1984. From 1989, BJP's Sushil Chandra Verma represent it thrice in Lok Sabha. In 1999 elections, Uma Bharti was elected but had to quit after being named as Chief Minister.

Chauhan, whose government was displaced by the grand old party in 2018 assembly elections, has appointed himself as a strong critic of Congress. The three-time doesn't miss any opportunity to find flakes in Kamal Nath-led Congress government.

Earlier, Chauhan held Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency for nearly 15 years. After becoming the state premier, he shifted to Budhni constituency. Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, accused in 29 September 2008 bombings in Malegaon, is also interested to contest against Digvijaya Singh.
