Amaravati, October 4: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched the YSR Vahan Mitra scheme under which self-employed drivers of auto-rickshaws, taxis and maxi-taxis will ger Rs 10,000 allowance. The annual allowance of Rs 10,000 would be given to drivers to meet the insurance premium, licence fee and other recurring expenses. On September 9, the state government had issued a GO to frame guidelines for the eligibility criteria. It has allocated Rs 400 crore for the YSR Vahan Mitra scheme. Of Rs 400 crore, drivers in Scheduled Caste category would get Rs 68 crore. Drivers in Scheduled Tribes category would get Rs 20 crore and the remaining amount is allocated for others.   • Fulfilling the promise, the Chief Minister launched the YSR Vahan Mitra scheme.
  • Under the scheme, the state government will distribute Rs 10,000 annually to auto-rickshaw and cab drivers.
  • The government received 1,75,352 applications under the scheme. Out of this, 1,73,102 were cleared. 2,250 applications were rejected.
  • Beneficiaries have been asked to submit Aadhaar card, white ration card, vehicle registration certificate, driving license and bank passbook details.
  • The allowance will be directedly credited in beneficiaries bank accounts. An SMS will also be sent to them.
  • The highest number of beneficiaries identified are from Visakhapatnam with 24,512 followed by Krishna with 20,333 and East Godavari with 19,209.

The Andhra Pradesh government has reserved 75 percent of jobs for local youths in various private sectors. Reddy had promised a quota for locals in jobs during his state-wide tour.
