Kochi: 2 Students Booked Under POCSO After Child S*xual Abuse Material Found

Two students arrested in connection with the alleged creation and circulation of morphed obscene images and videos of teachers and female students in Kochi have also been booked under the Protection of Children from S*xual Offences (POCSO) Act after child s*xual abuse material was allegedly found on their electronic devices, police said on Tuesday, September 8. The development has widened the investigation into the case involving a Telegram network.

Kochi City Police Commissioner S Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar said the material was found on devices belonging to Sreehari, a second-year BBA Logistics student of Bharata Mata College in Thrikkakara, and Saneesh, a student of another college, PTI reported. Police Probe Telegram Group

According to police, the two accused were members of a paid Telegram group where morphed images and videos were allegedly circulated for financial gain. "Their intention behind creating the premium group was to make money through such images and videos," Kumar told reporters.

Sreehari was arrested last week, while Saneesh was apprehended on Monday. Police have seized electronic devices from the accused and are examining them with the assistance of cyber experts.   Investigators are also trying to identify other members of the groups and establish their individual roles. "Some may have become part of the group by mistake or without knowing about its intention. We will take action based on the evidence we find," Kumar said.

Morphed Images And Videos Under Investigation

A preliminary examination of Sreehari's devices allegedly revealed several morphed photographs and videos involving his classmates and teachers, police said. Investigators have also been examining claims that photographs and videos were obtained through Sreehari's role in the media cell of a student organisation.

According to the FIR, Sreehari had allegedly been taking photographs and videos of teachers and students at the college since 2025 and morphing them into obscene content before uploading them to Telegram and Instagram, where they were allegedly circulated among different groups.

Police are continuing to analyse the digital evidence to determine the extent of the alleged activity and identify additional people who may have been involved.

Police have indicated that the investigation is not limited to the two arrests. Kumar said several people were being questioned and that further legal action would depend on evidence, including whether child s*xual abuse material was found on their devices.

Recent reports have said investigators are examining whether the activity involved a wider network and whether financial transactions were linked to the circulation of the material. The investigation is continuing, with police examining seized phones, laptops, chats and other digital evidence.

Sreehari, a second-year BBA Logistics student at Bharata Mata College, was the first person arrested in the case. Police had earlier said that his electronic devices contained allegedly morphed photographs and videos. The college has said it took action after the alleged activity came to light, while police subsequently formed a special investigation team to examine the case and identify others linked to the alleged circulation network.

The POCSO-related allegations add a new dimension to the investigation, while police continue to establish the origin, circulation and intended recipients of the material.
