Srinagar, June 15: Three men on motorcycle who killed veteran journalist and Rising Kashmir Editor Shujaat Bukhari, also shot dead two personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police who were deployed in his security. Constables Abdul Hameed and Mumtaz Ahmad were the two police personnel of the J&K Police who were deployed for the security of Bukhari.
At around 7.30 pm on Thursday, as Bukhari walked out in Press Enclave in the heart of Srinagar, Hameed and Ahmad were with him. Three men with their faces covered on a motorcycle fired indiscriminately, leaving Bukhari and the two police constables on the ground. While one of the constables died on the spot, another was rushed to the hospital but succumbed later.

The wreath laying ceremony of Ct Hameed and Ct Ahmad was held on Thursday in Srinagar. Officers led by DIG CKR laid floral wreaths on their mortal remains & paid rich tributes to the martyrs. Paying his respects to the two police officials, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, " I salute Const Hameed & Const Mumtaz of Jammu and Kashmir Police. Killed in the line of duty while posted as security officers to Shujaat Bukhari."

The police have released the CCTV footage of the three men on a motorcycle and have sought help from the public in identifying them. The killing is being suspected to be a terror attack with some reports indicating the possibility of an ISI hand in the murders.
