Move over monokinis and bikinis, because Facekinis are now in trend! The Chinese invention swept over the market last year attracting beachgoers everywhere. Made from swimsuit material in balaclava-style, you may call it masks stitched along with your beach outfit. It may not be the right fashion statement with slits for eyes, nose and mouth, but it does the job of protecting your skin rightly. It saves you from the harmful UV rays of the sun preventing a truckload of skin problems and diseases. Also, you will not have to worry about tanning after a beach holiday.

Facekinis were invented in 2004 to protect the delicate skin of Chinese women from the sun's rays. While initially, the older women used it, Facekinis are now popular among all age-groups. Not only does it save your face, but also stops jellyfish stings and algae allergies. It was developed by former accountant Zhang Shifan who is quite confident of her product becoming a global trend.

Owing to its popularity and ability to ward off skin problems, over 30,000 pieces are sold every year. While the first generation of Facekinis was just head-wear, now full body covering ones are also produced in plenty. The beachwear now come in different colours, patterns and sizes. From single block tones, ones attached to your clothing, standalone ones to just cover your face and more. It can also be used with goggles, snorkels or diving masks.

A New York City-based fashion trade magazine CR Fashion Book is credited with introducing Face-Kini to the world. They had released photos featuring models wearing high-fashion swimsuits from high-end designers with Facekinis in different shades and patterns, which made it popular.
