Every year January 25 is celebrated as National Voters Day (NVD) with the intention to encourage the younger generation towards the voting rights and spread awareness about the necessity of voting. National Voters Day 2020 falls on Saturday. Every year, NVD has a specific theme. January 25 is the foundation day of the Election Commission of India which came into existence in 1950. This day was first observed in 2011 to encourage the young electorate to take part in the political process. ECI's main objective is to increase the enrolment of voters, especially the eligible ones.
