Shirui Lily Festival 2019 has begun in Manipur and an array of flowers are on display. The town of Ukhrul dresses up in Shirui lilies attracting people from across the state and outside. They are rare pinkish-white flowers found only in the Shiru hill range in Ukhrul. It blooms annually between April to June every year. The third annual flower festival is being observed between October 16 to October 19. To see the carpet of lilies adorning the valley, visitors climb the Shirui Peak from where the flowers look simply mesmerising. The festival puts on display the tradition, culture and art of Manipur on display. Flower or Bird? At Shirui Lily Festival features colourful Tangkhul Naga games, music and various dances. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism and Culture Prahlad Singh Patel on Wednesday inaugurated the event at Shirui Vangayan Ground of Ukhrul in Manipur. State Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with Patel inaugurated the Strength of Unity Statue while opening the third edition of the four-day state festival.

Talking at the event Patel said that such cultural events showcase the state's culture, beauty and treasure. He said that joint efforts of the Government and Central Government promote tourism and culture of a region. The inaugural event was also attended by Cabinet ministers of the State and Lok Sabha MP Dr R K Ranjan Singh. Various folk dances and folk songs will be portraying the rich heritage of the State have been scheduled for the event.
