The wildfire that has gripped the Amazon forest continues to burn down the greenland. Along with destroying the Brazilian tropical rainforest, it is also causing an array of varying issues. Most parts of Brazil is facing the wrath of the fires with smoke billowing into residential areas. Recently, a low-tier Brazilian league football match was disrupted after heavy smoke covered the foot field in Rio Bronco.

A football match in the Brazilian third division between Atletico Acreano and Luverdense held on Sunday had to be stopped for seven minutes due to the wildfire. The game was stopped for a brief period as the visibility decreased. Video of the incident shows players leaving the ground as the visibility decreased. Meanwhile, Brazilians in major parts of the country have been complaining of respiratory problems. There is an increase in the number of people, particularly the elderly visiting hospitals seeking treatment for respiratory ailments. Talking about the ongoing disaster, the United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres said, "We are strongly appealing for the mobilisation of resources and we have been in contact with countries to see whether, during the high-level session of the General Assembly, there could be a meeting devoted to the mobilisation of support to the Amazon."

The Amazon rainforest is crucial for maintaining a stable global climate. Terming the Amazon as "a fundamental resource for all us" Guterres said, "I believe that the international community needs to be strongly mobilised to support the Amazon countries to do those things: stop the fires as quickly as possible with all means possible and then have a consistent reforestation policy."
