A unique road-safety initiative in Daman has gone viral after hundreds of SUV owners gathered at Transport Nagar and took an oath to drive responsibly. The administration urged owners to avoid displaying “bhaigiri” or “dadagiri” on the roads and instead make road safety and responsible driving a priority.
A video from the event shows hundreds of SUVs lined up at an open ground, while their owners gathered in front of them. Daman District Collector Saurabh Mishra is seen interacting with the participants and administering an oath to follow traffic rules and ensure the safety of other road users. The awareness programme was organised under the guidance of Union Territory Administrator Praful Patel. SUV owners registered in Daman were invited to participate along with their vehicles.

Officials also flagged unauthorised vehicle modifications during the programme. Owners were asked to remove prohibited tinted glass, illegal tyre modifications and unauthorised changes to sound and DJ systems. The administration warned that vehicles must comply with prescribed traffic and transport regulations. Daman officials said the campaign was aimed at changing the perception associated with large SUVs and encouraging owners to use their vehicles responsibly rather than as a means of intimidation.
The administration also launched a social media campaign urging participants to promote responsible driving online. Deputy Collector Priyanshu Singh warned that strict action would be taken against those using their vehicles to display “bhaigiri” or “mafiagiri”.
Officials stressed that Daman's popularity as a tourist destination makes responsible driving particularly important for the safety of residents, tourists and other road users.
