India’s Viral Cockroach Janta Party Inspires Pakistan’s ‘Cockroach Awami Party’
India’s viral Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), launched as a satirical response to remarks allegedly comparing unemployed youth to 'cockroaches,' has inspired similar online political groups in Pakistan, including the Cockroach Awami Party (CAP) and Cockroach Awami League (CAL). While India’s CJP has amassed millions of followers, the Pakistani offshoots remain smaller and fragmented.
What began in India as a satirical online political movement has now crossed borders into Pakistan. The rapid rise of India’s Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on social media has inspired the emergence of similar groups in Pakistan, including the Cockroach Awami Party (CAP) and the Cockroach Awami League (CAL), both of which are positioning themselves as youth-driven alternatives to mainstream political parties.
The Cockroach Janta Party gained traction in mid-May after controversy erupted over remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, who allegedly compared unemployed youth involved in activism to “cockroaches” and “parasites.” Although the Chief Justice later clarified the remarks, the controversy quickly snowballed online and fuelled the growth of the satirical movement. How India’s Cockroach Janta Party Went Viral
The movement was launched on May 16 by US-based public relations graduate and former Aam Aadmi Party associate Abhijeet Dipke through social media campaigns and a Google-form-based membership drive. “Yeah, I am the cockroach. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) was exactly talking about me,” Dipke told India Today TV in an exclusive interview.
Branding itself as the “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed,” the party mixes satire with real political and social concerns. Its mock manifesto includes demands such as better employment opportunities, reforms in examination systems, improved healthcare and education, stronger public services, and greater political accountability. What Is the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ and How To Join It?
Within days, the party’s Instagram account reportedly crossed more than 19 million followers, overtaking the official handles of major Indian political parties including the BJP and Congress.
Although the party’s X account was withheld in India on Thursday, it later resurfaced through another handle posting, “You thought you can get rid of us? Lol”. The movement has also reportedly filed trademark applications and claimed to have received a large number of sign-ups through its website.
Cockroach Awami Party: Pakistani Versions Begin Emerging Online
Soon after the movement gained traction in India, several Pakistan-based social media pages inspired by the Cockroach Janta Party began surfacing online.
One of the earliest among them was Cockroach Awami Party (CAP), which openly acknowledged the inspiration from India in its Instagram bio stating, “Yeah copied but who cares. Motto is same”.
The account, which had crossed around 1,700 followers at the time of reporting, stated that it was “not associated with any single person or any single team” and aimed to become “the real voice of every Gen-Z” in Pakistan.
The Pakistani version adopted a similar cockroach logo but used green-and-white branding while positioning itself as an alternative to mainstream political parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Most of its content currently consists of memes and short-form reels reposted from creators. The account has also said it plans to reveal its official motto on May 28.
Multiple Offshoots Appear Across Platforms
Apart from CAP, other similar pages have also appeared on X and Instagram. One X account, @CockroachAP, described itself with the line: “Jinhein system ne cockroach samjha, hum unhi awaam ki awaaz hain” (Those whom the system treated as cockroaches, we are the voice of those people).
Another page calling itself the Cockroach Awami League Pakistan claimed to be the “official account” of the Cockroach Awami League (CAL) and used the slogan “Har halaat mein zinda hain” (We remain alive in every situation).
Unlike India’s Cockroach Janta Party, which has a clear founder, central messaging and an organised online campaign, the Pakistani versions currently appear fragmented, with multiple independent creators running separate pages.
