Not us! But a school essay book defines the Modern Girl as a ‘self-centred’ who loves to wear jeans and pants over sarees. Just when you thought, we have put some baby steps towards equality, here is a book titled—Current School Essays and Letters that shuts all such doors of hope. To what is more surprising is that the volume is written by a female author named Purabi Chakravarty. Each sentence of the essay, ‘The Modern Girl’ in the book screams misogyny! After coming across it, users in social media have clicked and shared the pages of the article urging parents to keep their children away from this book.

The essay is about the girl in the modern age whose choice of life is ‘showy and eye-catching dresses’ and wants to ‘enjoy her life like boys’. Wait! There is much more. “A modern girl is too selfish to think about others. Only latest fashions and cosmetics are very dear to her.” Much to the writer’s hardship, our parents and readers are mature to confront, and their fingers could not resist but type their thoughts against the author in no time. The book which can be purchased from Amazon has managed to attract only outrageous comments.

The Modern Girl.

While some commentators have slammed the writer, others plea to ban the book. The infamous one-star ratted book is for secondary and higher secondary students from ICSE, CBSE and ISC. Talking about the author, Purabi, her educational qualification suggests Bachelor of Education, D.E.L.T and a Masters in English. She is also the writer of a series of General Knowledge which is for children from 5 to 10 years old.
