A passenger travelling on the Bandra Terminus-Bhuj Special train (number 09037) in coach B-8 lost a gold ring worth lakhs after it accidentally fell into the train’s toilet and slipped into the drainage pipe and waste tank. The passenger initially believed the ring was irretrievable.
The incident occurred during a journey from Mumbai to Bhuj, after which the matter was reported to railway authorities. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ahmedabad, shared details of the recovery operation in a post on X on May 12. Intensive Recovery Operation at Ahmedabad Station
According to the DRM’s post, Western Railway staff launched a recovery operation as soon as the train reached Ahmedabad station. "But as soon as they reached Ahmedabad station, the Western Railway staff turned it into a mission," the post read. It added, "Senior Section Engineer (C&W) Shri Sanjay Yadav, CTS staff Shri Virendra Kumar Singh, and the entire team toiled for hours amidst the filthy tank, pipelines, and overpowering stench, and finally retrieved the ring."
Officials said the team worked for several hours inside the train’s waste system under extremely difficult and unhygienic conditions, navigating pipelines and waste storage areas to locate the missing item. Ring Successfully Recovered and Returned
After sustained efforts, the team successfully retrieved the gold ring and returned it to the passenger. Officials said the passenger expressed relief and happiness upon receiving the item back. When the ring was handed back to the passenger, their joy was a sight to behold, the DRM said.
DRM Ved Prakash praised the team for their commitment and professionalism during the operation. Western Railway officials highlighted that their responsibility extends beyond transporting passengers to also safeguarding their trust and belongings.
