A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on Friday evening, triggering strong tremors across northern India. Residents in Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh in Punjab and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir reported moderate to heavy shaking, prompting many to rush out of their homes in panic. The epicentre was located near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at a depth of about 175 kilometres. Tremors were also felt indoors, with people noticing swaying fans and light fixtures. According to initial reports from USGS and GFZ, no major damage or casualties have been confirmed so far.
