Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the African Union (AU) has been given permanent membership in the Group of 20 largest economies (G20) in the world during the opening session of the two-day G20 Summit. "Honoured to welcome the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 Family. This will strengthen the G20 and also strengthen the voice of the Global South", PM Modi wrote in a recent tweet. He also shared a video wherein he can be seen sharing a warm hug with President of the Union of Comoros and Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Azali Assoumani, before he took his seat at the summit.
