Today, May 18, VD Satheesan took the oath of office as the new Chief Minister of Kerala at Thiruvananthapuram's Central Stadium. The swearing-in ceremony officially marks the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) return to power after a ten-year hiatus. Joining Satheesan, a 20-member Cabinet composed of senior Congress and IUML leaders will also be sworn in.
VD Satheesan took oath as Kerala Chief Minister today, May 18. The oath-taking ceremony of the Keralam government took place at t the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Besides VD Satheesan, 20 cabinet ministers are also expected to take the oath of office. The oath-taking ceremony marks the return of the United Democratic Front (UDF) to power after a decade. The 20-member Cabinet that will take oath includes senior Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala, K Muraleedharan and KPCC chief Sunny Joseph, along with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders PK Kunhalikutty, PK Basheer, N Samsudheen, KM Shaji and VE Abdul Gafoor. The UDF registered a landslide victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 140-member House. The Congress emerged as the single-largest party with 63 seats, while the IUML won 22 seats. The LDF was reduced to 35 seats, while the BJP won three constituencies.
