A controversy broke out at the Paris Olympics 2024 after Italy's Angela Carini called off her Women's 66kg boxing bout against Algeria's Imane Khelif, who failed a gender test. In a video which has been doing the rounds on social media, Khelif is seen landing a punch on Carini and the Italian immediately went to her corner, signalling that she would not carry on with this fight. Khelif, for the record, had failed a gender test at the World Championships last year, and there has already been a lot of talk already on how the International Olympic Committee (IOC) could allow the Algerian to compete against a woman.
