Angela Carini Wanted to Win at Paris Olympics 2024 For Her Late Father! Old Video Goes Viral After She Pulls Out of Boxing Round of 16 Bout Against Algeria's Imane Khelif, Who Failed Gender Test
The 25-year-old opted out of the round of 16 bout after copping a blow by the Algerian boxer who had earlier failed a gender test. Algeria's Imane Khelif advanced to the quarters as a result of Angela Carini's withdrawal.
Angela Carini made the headlines earlier on August 1 when she called off her Women's 66 Kg boxing round of 16 bout against Algeria's Imane Khelif. Khelif had earlier failed a gender test at last year's World Championships and Carini, just after 46 seconds of the match, quit the contest after taking a blow to her face. This spelt the end of her Paris Olympics 2024 campaign, one where she had high hopes of winning. An old video has surfaced on social media where Carini, right after qualifying for the Paris Olympics, was seen showing her late father on her phone screen to reporters. In the viral clip, she is seen explaining how her father motivated her when she felt tired after training. Female Boxers Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan and Imane Khelif of Algeria Complied With Paris Olympics 2024 Rules After Gender Test Issue at World Championships, Says IOC.
