Sanjay Manjrekar has sparked fresh debate by arguing that the T20 World Cup should revert to its original name, simply as WorldT20, to distinguish it from the Cricket World Cup. Writing on X, the commentator suggested that the biennial nature of the T20 tournament diminishes its prestige compared to the quadrennial Cricket World Cup. He stated that granting both competitions the same status is unfair, asserting that the 50-Over World Cup will remain the only Cricket World Cup that is important in his view. Sanjay Manjrekar On T20 World Cup
For me the ‘Cricket World Cup’ will
always be the 50 overs World Cup.
The T20 version held every two years must not be given the same status of a World Cup that comes once in 4 years. I prefer the original name for it - The WorldT20.
