In what is supposed to be a ‘one-sided’ match for Manchester City, Sporting CP put up an excellent performance and handed Pep Guardiola’s team a 4-1 defeat at Estadio Jose Alvalade. Viktor Gyokeres shinned for Sporting with a hattrick against Manchester City.
Struggling with player injuries, Manchester City fielded the strongest possible line-up against Sporting CP for match number four in the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 competition. Yet it was supposed to be an easy win for the Premier League giants. However, apart from Phil Foden’s opening goal, it was all Sporting CP who held their defensive line and controlled the proceedings even with just 27 per cent possession. Viktor Gyokeres scored a hattrick with two penalties in the second half to register an impressive win for his side. Sporting CP now stands in second position, behind Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 standings.
