Indian Men’s Hockey Team Beats New Zealand 3–2 in Opening Match at Paris Olympics 2024; Harmanpreet Singh Scores Late to Give India Winning Start
The Indian men's hockey team had won a bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics three years ago. India's next match is against Argentina on July 29.
The Indian men's hockey team got off to a winning start to their campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a 3-2 victory over New Zealand on Saturday, July 27. New Zealand took the lead as early as in the eighth minute of the match through Sam Lane, who found the back of the Indian net through a penalty corner. The first quarter ended with New Zealand having a 1-0 lead but India fought back in the second with Mandeep Singh levelling the score. India then obtained the lead with Vivek Sagar Prasad but that New Zealand then found the equaliser through Simon Child. And with minutes left on the clock, India regained the lead in the match through Harmanpreet Singh, eventually securing a 3-2 victory.
