Ajay Mandhra, a boy from Naxal-affected Malakangiri district of Odisha, was a part of the Indian men's Kho Kho team that won a gold medal after defeating England in final of the first International Kho Kho tournament held in London from 1st to 4th September. This positive news is like icing to the cake as India saw its best ever performance at the Asian Games ever, in terms of medal tally at the Asiad. News agency ANI tweeted pictures of the young member of the champion team. Talking about his achievement, Ajay said that "It's a very good feeling. I did a lot of hard work. My family is also very happy. I want more people from my village to do good in this sport."

Ajay hails from Odisha's Bonda tribal community. The Bonda tribal group is considered to be one of the most primitive tribes in the country. Ajay's parents work as daily wage laborers but always supported him in his pursuit of the sport, said Ajay.
