Chris Gayle overtook Brian Lara to become West Indies’ highest run in ODI cricket. The Universe Boss, who also broke Lara’s record of most ODI appearances for West Indies, added another feather to his giant cap. Lara and Gayle are also the only two Caribbean players to cross 10,000 ODI runs for the West Indies. Lara made 299 appearances for the Caribbean nation before calling it quits in 2007 following a dismal World Cup campaign. Gayle came into the ODI series against India just 10 runs away from becoming West Indies’ top ODI run-getter. India vs West Indies Live Cricket Score 2nd ODI 2019 Match.

The big-hitting West Indian opening batsman was dismissed cheaply for just four runs in a rain-curtailed opening ODI game. Irregular rain and poor pitch conditions eventually forced the umpires to call the off game with West Indies stranded at 54/1 in 13 overs. Gayle was the only man dismissed in the game. Gayle was clean bowled by Kuldeep Yadav after a disappointing 31-ball four runs.

Earlier, the 39-year-old opening batsman added another feather to his name by becoming the first West Indies player to make 300 ODI appearances when he took the field in the second ODI game against India at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He is also second in the list of most ODI sixes with 326 sixes to his name. Shahid Afridi leads the sixes chart with 351 sixes.

Gayle is also the 14th cricketer to cross the 10,000 runs barrier in One-Day International cricket. He is also the 12th highest run-getter in ODI cricket after overtaking Lara. Virat Kohli with 11,406 ODI runs in 238 games is the highest active ODI run-scorer, while Gayle is second.
