Abishek Porel Accused of S*xual Exploitation; IPL Player Denies Allegations
Bengal cricketer and Delhi Capitals player Abishek Porel is under police investigation in Hooghly after a woman filed a complaint alleging he assaulted her and reneged on a marriage promise. Porel, currently in Bengaluru, strongly denied the accusations as false, stating they emerged simply because his cricket career is going well.
A formal police complaint has been lodged against Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel by a woman alleging that he engaged in a s*xual relationship under a false promise of marriage, subsequently subjecting her to physical assault and criminal intimidation. Filed by the woman and her mother at the Mogra Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Tuesday, local law enforcement confirmed they have officially initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter.
According to the legal deposition, the complainant asserted that she and Porel had been involved in a domestic relationship for the past three years. She alleged that sharp personal differences surfaced last year, following which the 23-year-old cricketer systematically began distancing himself from her.
Complainant Alleges Exploitation and Coercion
The woman further alleged that Porel had explicitly promised to marry her during the course of their relationship but is now actively refusing to formalise their alliance. The complaint outlines that Porel allegedly utilised the promise of marriage to maintain s*xual intercourse with her, and further accuses him of physical assault and issuing criminal threats when confronted about the wedding delays. Confirming the administrative development, a senior police official stated, "We have received a complaint and started an investigation." Detectives are currently reviewing the statements and are expected to summon relevant parties for questioning.
Porel Denies Accusations, Cites Career Timing
Porel, who is currently stationed in Bengaluru for professional commitments, has strongly denied all the allegations, characterising them as entirely baseless and fabricated. The left-handed batter indicated that he has not yet received a formal notification or summons from the investigating officers. "I am playing well now, so various things are coming up," Porel was quoted as saying in the media, attributing the sudden nature of the accusations to his rising professional graph. He added that he intends to cooperate fully with law enforcement and will deliver a comprehensive response once the primary procedures are underway. "I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet," Porel stated.
Background of the Athlete’s Career
Abishek Porel has established himself as a prominent young talent in Indian domestic cricket. A left-handed top-order batter and wicketkeeper, Porel has been a part of the Delhi Capitals roster in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since his debut in the 2023 season, where he accumulated 108 runs from four innings during his last campaign.
